Govenor Basin

Govenor Basin Panoramic

This is a view looking generally west over Governor Basin from CR 8531C.  The Mountain Top Mine talus pile is visible in the distance in the left center of the image.  The image was taken at a point where the road finally levels providing an amazing airplane view of this massive bowl.

The forest service road is pretty bad (rock slabs, sharp turns on rock slabs and steps) until you get above tree line.  We discovered that we did not have 4WD low when driving this route (broken linkage).

The building clinging to the slope beyond was a dormitory for the miners and not a stamp mill.  This dorm will need to be stabilized very soon or it will collapse.

The mine in the bottom of the basin is active.

See Photo Gallery Forty-One for more images of Govenor Basin and the Mountain Top Mine.
